Sophomore Tips – Major First, or College First?

Sophomore Tips - Choosing a Major“Do I need to know what career I want to go into as I enter college?”

It is one of the most common questions we receive from students and their families. The answer is Yes and No.

It would be ideal if you know BEFORE you start your search for the right-fit colleges, but there are other options available if you don’t know yet.

We advocate that our students have enough time to explore career options in which they are potentially interested within the safety of their high school years.  Many organizations and professionals would be delighted to have a bright, enthusiastic high school student learn about the work they do.  Volunteering is another way of learning about your strengths and weaknesses, as well as learning about how communities work together.

Are you an aspiring filmmaker, environmental scientist, or a physician? We can advise you with many interesting options, ranging from summer camps, shadowing and internship, or volunteering opportunities.  Don’t wait until summer is around the corner because most ideal positions would already be taken! This is the perfect time to start looking!
